What is a Rivet Nut?

Fasteners can effectively solve the problem that nuts are fixed on parts, and the commonly used nuts are rivet nuts. Actually, the rivet nut is a kind of nut-type fastener with the capability of riveting at the same time. As early as before the rivet nut was born, people wanted to fix the nut on a part, and the only way was to fix it by welding. However, this way can not completely solve people's problems.

If we are faced with materials that are not easy to weld, such as plastic, sheet, nonferrous metals, etc., we can imagine the difficulty of fixing them. However, since the invention of the rivet nut, we only need a small rivet gun tool to install the nut on various materials, and it can be easily and firmly fixed, which is convenient to assemble with other various mechanical screws.

Common standards for rivet nuts are: GB17880.1, GB17880.2, GB17880.5, etc. And the material of the  rivet nut can be steel, stainless steel, copper and aluminum at the same time. Because the riveting operation of the rivet nut needs to be carried out on the softer material, it can be riveted on the other hand, but it also brings a problem, that is, its mechanical properties can only be maintained in the state of Grade 4 and Grade 5 at the highest, which can facilitate the plasticity of the material during the rivet installation. Nowadays, rivet nuts are commonly used in the frames of various mechanical structures, such as the common connection parts of the pipe rack structure of textile machines, or the connection parts of the back plates of some cabinets, etc.

The above is all my summary and analysis of rivet nuts. I hope this article can help you.
